Light as memories, dark as dried up blood

If you spotted something new (not old, borrowed or blue) sprinkled across my skin, your eyes haven't deceived you. I've been washing, greasing and healing my newborn body adornments with love and care, and firmly fought the urge to book more inky appointments. Enough ink work for this year's quantity, methinks. :)

Here's a couple of captures from a week ago! With all probabilities I've leafed through all the tattoo magazines of the Joker tattoo shop during my visits. On this trip I realized that it's far better to read an actual book than gaze at the pretty pictures and girls with a lot of ink on their skin and not nearly as much clothing. Nothing against pretty tattooed girls, but I much prefer to sink into a story. The sharpest edge of pain was clearly cut off as I was too much concentrated on the deep love declaration of Jane Eyre and Mr.Rochester. (I'm actually starting to prefer Mr.Rochester over Mr.Darcy, there's just something special in the slightly scruffy and brooding men!)

Reading in the torture chair. The pain isn't half that bad if you know how to spirit it away!
(+I don't actually look that serene while reading, the photo is staged. ;)
Tuula's  drawings
Her drawings inked on me
And some more wonderful drawings!

All the artwork above belongs to my friend & tattoo artist Tuula. You can check out her work on her FB site: *click*! She kindly showed me the new flashes she's been working on lately, and oh my. Scientists from the times gone-by, tentacle monsters and ancient languages, occult books dripping with ink or the blackest blood imaginable and all sorts of obscure and fascinating creatures that dwell in the most surreal fields of the imagination. Needless to say how much I loved these. And my new body illustrations.

"We can't stop here, this is bat country!"

(An approving little smile for everyone who recognized the title's movie. ;> )

One of the things we did on our little trip was checking out the bat show in the Museum of Natural History. Something that's impossible to pass if you happen to be a goth, lover of bats or possess an undying fascination for nature documentaries. Especially if you're all of the above.

I expected to see stuffed batlings, skeletons and an information package to nourish the missing gaps in the bat knowledge, and I got that, but the exhibition was also surprising in the most positive way! There were stories from the occult side of the history of bats and even a Batman suit and a selection of the dishes that different bats devour, wow. And bats are nocturnal creatures, so naturally it was very dark in the exhibition space.

At first I thought about revealing more from this lovely museum of nature's oddities, especially the bones, but then I recalled that I've already done that, ha! In this old post.

Within her breast there launched an unnamed sorrow, And a dark and grim force set sail

Today's garments with a slightly Parisian twist, s'il vous plaît! Including current favorites; blood red lips, a little black felt beret that makes bad hair days turn out to be bloody good ones in one minute, and a turned hairdo. "Faux bob" to be exact, but my hair is so long that it turns out to be more of a medium length style. So no, I haven't cut my hair. Not yet anyway. ;)

Right now I'm longing to pack my vintage suitcase with necessities and treasures and a great book, and travel to some hidden place far far away. Or jump right into a teleporter and to an unknown destination! Wonderland would be fascinating and of course Paris will always do, but I'd love to explore and experience something new.

But there's this insurmountable obstacle on my way that I can not cross. I've made a solemn vow of finishing my school before escaping to other lands, so that's a little bait for graduating!

shirt, skirt & belt ~ second hand (cost about 3 euros together, I love flea markets!)
bag ~ vintage (60's) / moth necklace ~ Etsy / felt beret ~ Asos (Filippo Catarzi)

Luckily there's some homeland travelling in the horizon tomorrow morning, so I won't get too restless on this matter. A small and perfectly unscheduled weekend holiday in Helsinki awaits me and my sweetheart, but I'll be gone for a whole week since I'm taking a little trip to Turku as well. And you know what that destination means. I'll be coming back with some more inked inches under my skin.

PS: I've answered most of the Q&A post's questions (took a really long time to think about some of those, you know!) and I'll publish them some day soon. I only hope to get some photos to illustrate the posts so they won't seem too bare and lonely, so please don't expect them to show up miraculously over the weekend or during the trip.

I wish you all a wonderful week and hope to be back soon! And I will, of course, if I find a computer and an editing program somewhere in the places I'm crashing on. Here's a little farewell tune from one of the best wintertime bands:

Release the Bats!

*SPONSORED POST*

A little while ago I got a virtual bottle mail from Back Street, asking if I'd like to make a collaboration post about their newest arrival brand, Kill Star. Being a friend, model and a customer of the shop in question I didn't hesitate to respond affirmatively, I think my exact words were more like OH, YES. And the new collection is filled with fun occult inspired treats so what's there not to like!

(As always, my thoughts and reviews of the products are my own honest opinions.)

Some picks from the new arrivals! Barbiegram and Disney, behold the faces of true evil.

So, I got sent the Bat Dress and the seamed tights. The dress is made of soft tricot and the sides are fluttery like tiny bat wings, which is a fun detail as you move around! And it has a very darkly cute bat/cross print in the front, as you can see.

Looking at my style this might not be the ideal dress for parties and formal outfits, but it's just the kind of a easy-going garment that I'd pick for sinking in the seat of the movie theatre or busy weekdays: comfy, easy to put on, pretty and spiced with a gorgeously sinister print. It's also pretty much perfect for this moment regarding my current life's situation, since I'm spending a lot of time at school and at the turmoil of my thesis. Comfy clothes are priceless when you need to sit for hours and hours at the computer's glow or run around in the echoing hallways. In a fluttering dress it's all a teeny bit more pleasant.

I would gently advice to put a camisole dress or leggings underneath this dress if you don't want to reveal too much, since it's a very flowy garment and it has quite big gaps in the bust area. And a really short hem if you're a tall person (which I'm not), but it all depends on the way you want to wear it. :)

And about the tights, I don't think I can praise these too much. Honest. These seamed stockings are made of tulle, which is my favorite material in seamed socks since it always outlasts the more delicate materials. And that's a good thing for me! I'm like a little kitten, ripping and trashing all stockings with my claws in no time, but I really hope these will make it through many parties to come.

I've stashed almost all of the options from Back Street's Pamela Mann selection in my sock collection and I love to wear them (and way too often ruin them), you can see many different styles scattered in this blog. Many of you have been asking about those in different outfit posts, and here's the answer to their origin. :)

Here's some of my favorite styles, which are actually all in my closet already. What can I say, I'm a maniac hosiery lady..

And for the end a little treat for my readers! (I'm truly sorry but this might not work for foreign readers since the website's only in Finnish at the moment. :/ But you can make inquiries, I hope that ordering might work somehow in case you're interested!: webshop@backstreet.fi

Darkness there and nothing more

Mother nature has shown her cold shoulder again, so it was time to dig out the winter coats and warm layers from the dusts of last winter. As you can see, the ghostlike blanket covers the land again in death and sleep for months and months to come. And I'm not ready for it yet, it all happened so quickly! I wish that autumn could linger on for a few more months, I hate to admit that it's finally time to cradle those lovely sheer stockings and high heels into hibernation.

The photos were snapped on our Sunday stroll a few hours ago. I'm drawn to this old, mildewed house around the corner, buildings like these positively scream with old memories and I can't help but wonder how it's crumbled into such a mess. The untended garden and cracked paints makes it look like it's abandoned, but sometimes you can see a dim light glowing in the upstairs window. Perhaps it's a ghost (or more realistically thinking, a hobo) but I'd really like to visit the place's insides. Living in a place like that would be so dreamy.

Today's outfit: mourning hat & granny bag ~ vintage  /  dress ~ Restyle / coat ~ from mum (orig.Lindex)
necklace ~ Kreepsville and  stockings by Pamela Mann, both from Back Street  / shoes & gloves ~ second hand

And a worthy mention of the best activity of the weekend: the yearly tradition of the local horror/trash film festival Cinemare! I'm always anxiously waiting for this event and I scan the selection with glee, but I still made it to only two films this year (plus DREDD 3D, which we saw right before the actual festival). The idea is to watch films all through the night, but my concentration and sitting skills just aren't adequate for a crusade of that magnitude. Next year I shall try my best to last through the night, with sheer will power as my weapon. And gallons of coffee.

PS: The last shown film included a short film premiere (the Gates of Evil) in the beginning, and the fun thing is that I acted in it! As a zombie! :D And I'm a bit ashamed that I couldn't keep awake for that occasion, but luckily I'll see it later on a separate presentation!

A peek into our Halloween party!

Exactly one week ago our tiny flat was inhabited by a couple of Deaths, a killer clown (I think I died for a little instant), Venom, hipster Ariel, Black Swan, Great Cthulhu himself, creepy doll and a bunch of other perfectly normal folks. Also known as friends. And I'm happy to the bone that everyone had dressed up so neatly!

Sickly sweet & green punch and other delicious poisons flowed like blood and everyone had a great time, that's about all I have to say about the night. Except that I could insert a lot of hearts in here. And that I kind of wish I could throw a party like this every month.

(all Instagram photos are from my friend's phone)
Darth Vader kissing V. Oh boy, I'm going to cherish this photo forever.

I hope you all had a great Halloween!

It's the V to the A to the D - E - R

-"You don't know the power of the dark side!"

Darth Vader, the Dark Lord of the Sith and the father of Luke and Leia, a.k.a. my Halloween costume! :> I've worn many, many costumes in my life (well you all know how much I adore theme parties), but this, one of my dearest childhood antiheroes, was special. I've been a Star Wars film geek since the budding age of five or so, back in those days I drew Lord Vader parachuted in space, shouting "HELP! HELP!" in Finnish, chased with bombs fired by a naively sketched Millenium Falcon. Probably the best piece of art I've ever made!

And about the suit: I'm pretty sure Vader didn't wear high heels and pvc skirts, but I was meant to be a female version so let's not cling too much on the details. After all, I had a red light saber and my Force worked pretty well after a couple of drinks, so it felt like a success! Did you dress up for Halloween? I'd love to hear about your costumes!

(And oh, here's a little theme video bonus for you, whoever made this should get a big hug. ♥)
